Mickey’s PhilharMagic

Great example of an interactive and immersive 4D show. The visual effects combine all your favorite Disney characters and songs. A magical flying carpet takes you on a magical tour with Mickey and all his musical friends!

Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor

As you leave this attraction you will say, “How did they do that”? Disney knows how to involve guests and provide complete interactivity. Mike Wasowski plays the MC in an immersive and interactive comedy show where the audience plays the biggest part. But…do you really want to be “That Guy”? The monsters are totally LIVE! Before the show you can text in their own jokes to appear on the show!

... Research the growth of railroads, and steam engines from 1850 to 1900. Research the dynamics of the American West, immigrants, mobility, railroads, slavery, and the transcontinental railroad.

Activity 2. There's a Train a-Comin' - The Impact of the Transcontinental Railroad

In "Passage to India," Walt Whitman sings in wonderment at the sight of the Transcontinental Railroad. Envisioning himself a passenger, he hears the echoes of the whistle "reverberate through the grandest scenery in the world." The train brings Whitman to the mountains, plains, deserts and forests, whose images he uses to create a romantic portrait of the West that feels eternal.

To emphasize the entry of new states into the Union after the growth of the railroads, students could use instead—or additionally, for comparison purposes—a map of the United States in 1880, available through a link from the EDSITEment-reviewed New Perspectives on The West. If desired, compare the 1880 map to a map from 1900 to demonstrate how many states were admitted to the Union in the interim.
